Service list
Laptop repair services
A working breakdown of what we service on laptops — the fault, what it looks like on the machine, and what the fix typically involves. If yours isn't on this list, call 603-645-0101 and describe the symptoms; we'll tell you whether it fits our bench.
Display
Screen & display repair
The most common laptop failure on the bench. Panels crack from lid closures and bag drops; backlights fail without a scratch in sight; cables loosen and the image flickers or dies at certain angles.
Signs it's this problem
- Cracked or shattered glass, or lines running through the image
- Screen dark, or only the backlight outline visible
- Flickering, or an image that changes with the lid angle
- Dim spots where the panel is pressed
Typical work: panel or cable replacement, hinge and bezel work, then display checks at multiple angles before it goes back to you.
Input
Keyboard & trackpad repair
Keys wear out, grit gets in, and liquid is the silent killer — a little spill under the keys can show up as ghost typing weeks later.
Signs it's this problem
- A key that sticks, repeats, or never registers
- Random characters appearing in text
- A key with no travel under the finger
- A trackpad that drags, jumps, or ignores clicks
Typical work: key-level replacement where the model allows, or full keyboard / trackpad assembly swap, plus cleanup and a full key test before return.
Power
Battery & power repair
Lithium batteries are consumables — charge capacity falls with age and heat. Ports bend. And sometimes the power circuit itself is what's actually failing, which only testing finds.
Signs it's this problem
- It lasts shorter and shorter on a charge
- Shuts off the moment the plug comes out
- Won't power on at all without AC
- A bent or wobbly charging port
Typical work: battery replacement, DC port repair, or power circuit diagnosis — with a note on expected runtime after the fix.
Storage
Data recovery & storage
A failing drive usually announces itself — slower and slower boot times, clicking, files that won't open. When the machine still powers on, acting early is the difference between a full recovery and a partial one.
Signs it's this problem
- Boot times that keep getting worse
- Clicks, ticks, or spinning cursors
- Missing or corrupted files
- A machine slow enough that upgrading is worth it
Typical work: data triage to get files off a struggling drive, replacement drive installs, and SSD upgrades with your files carried over.
Software
Virus, malware & security cleanup
Pop-ups, redirects, and “you are infected” warnings are usually fixable — but persistence can hide in startup items and scheduled tasks, which is why a real cleanup checks for more than what's visible.
Signs it's this problem
- Browser homepages or search engines you don't remember setting
- Constant pop-ups or ad tabs
- A machine that's noticeably slower than it was
- Warnings from other tools you've tried
Typical work: full scan and removal, cleanup of persistence, and a talk-through of the likely way in so it doesn't come back.
Software
Performance tuning & OS work
Some laptops aren't broken — they're buried. Years of startup items, background bloat, and an OS too old to update cleanly add up until everything takes ten seconds.
Signs it's this problem
- Slow startup and shutdown
- Apps freezing under normal use
- A disk that's nearly full
- Updates that have piled up and stopped working
Typical work: startup and disk cleanup, driver and firmware updates, and — when that's the honest answer — a clean OS reinstall with your files preserved.
Hardware
Hardware upgrades
A laptop a few years old often still has a lot of life in it — it just needs more memory, a faster drive, or a cooler-running board.
Signs it's worth a look
- Apps crawling when more than a few are open
- An old spinning hard drive doing all the work
- Wi-Fi that drops in your own home
- A fan that sounds like a jet
Typical work: RAM installs, SSD upgrades, Wi-Fi card replacements, and thermal repastes — each tested in place before the machine goes home.
Intake
Liquid & physical damage
Spills and drops are the least predictable repairs, so the first step is an honest assessment: what got wet or hit, what the board looks like, and what's realistically worth saving.
Signs it's this problem
- A spill poured or splashed on the keyboard
- A drop that left a dent or a bent case
- Water visible in or around the charging port
- A machine that won't power on after any of the above
Typical work: intake assessment, board inspection, part-level repair where it makes sense — and a straight answer when replacement is the wiser spend.
Before you bring it in
What to have ready
- The laptop and its charger — the wrong brick can look like a battery or power fault.
- Notes on what's wrong: when it started, any recent drops, spills, or updates.
- Error messages or codes, written down or photographed if you can.
- If the drive is acting up, mention it first — backup questions come before work.
